Sears Once Sold Homes In Michigan For Less Than $1,000
It's no surprise that the housing market in Michigan is in shambles right now for the middle and working class, particularly because there is no middle class left essentially, and houses are too expensive for those who are working themselves into the grave for less than $50,000.
So it all kind of seems like a slap in the face when I see an advertisement from the 1920s or 1930s that shows a home that Sears would once build that cost less than $1,000. Boy, that must have been nice. Recently someone shared the advert saying they have actually seen these houses, and even sold them to homeowners:
I’ve sold a few of these over the years. Not at this great of a price though. Sears homes were usually built in areas of Michigan that had large train station terminals in the 1920s & 30s. It was not as easy to move houses down the road at that time. That’s why we see a lot of these these in places like Holly, Royal Oak. Birmingham…
It does beg the question of whether or not since Kalamazoo has always had a strong train presence, if there are possibly any of these homes in the area that are still in use. Unfortunately for us Millenials, we will never see prices like these or any other reasonable price on the market.
If we as Millenials REALLY want a house, we're gonna have to continue to quit our complaining, pull ourselves up by the bootstraps, and wish for a damn miracle, like winning the lottery or the crumbling of our society.
