If you are looking to view the night sky from the iconic Sleeping Bear Dunes you will want to  head up to the dunes this weekend.

According to the M-Live story, the popular Dune climb at Sleeping Bear Dunes is the place to be to view the summer night sky.

The dunes will host a star viewing party on Saturday, June 23rd.   Park rangers and astronomers will be on hand as visitors will have a chance to view the sun, moon as well as Venus, Jupiter and much more.

Sleeping Bear Dunes and areas of Northern  Lower Michigan are great places to sky watch as there is many areas of low light plus there are lack of trees along the shoreline at the dunes.

Last summer my wife and I had a chance to view a meteor shower north of Harbor Springs and had great views of the night sky.  I will be up to that part of Michigan again this summer and hope to do more stargazing.

If you have never been North and like to stargaze it is a must.

The event this weekend is free and open to the public.   You do need to buy a park entrance pass if you want to attend.

You can check out the Sleeping Bear Dunes site here for more information on this event and others scheduled through this year.
