Grandville Principal Dresses as Darth Vader for Star Wars Day
May the 4th be with you, indeed! A principal at a West Michigan elementary school REALLY went all out for Star Wars Day.
Fox 17 reports that Principal David Martini of Cummings Elementary School in Grandville dressed up as Darth Vader in celebration of his favorite day of the year.
He greeted students in full costume as they got to school on May 4.
Looks like the students and teachers got in on the fun too, sporting Star Wars T-shirts, and some even going all out with storm trooper, Obi-Wan, Chewbacca, and Rey costumes.
Casie Bunce tells Fox 17,
“He does this every year. He is an amazing principal. You should see him on Halloween. The year the Greatest Showman came out he was the lead role! It was amazing!”
Did you celebrate Star Wars Day this year?
If you're curious about origin of the holiday, according to National Today,
The first organized Star Wars Day took place in Toronto back in 2011. The event included an Original Trilogy Trivia Game Show, a costume contest, and a showing of fan-made tribute films, mash-ups, parodies, and remixes.
However, unofficially, it's thought that celebrating Star Wars on May 4th started not long after the first movie came out in 1977. According to WFAA, the saying "May the 4th be with you," originated from a political ad celebrating Margaret Thatcher being elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1979.
