Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the residence in the 900 block of North Burdick St. around 4am Saturday, and arrived to find the 26-year-old with gunshot wounds; he was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead.

The attempted break-in took place Wednesday, and police say the homeowners "attempted to protect themselves" by firing several gunshots at the suspects.
