Christmas time in Michigan. Time to get yourself ready for the season of shopping for gifts and the sound of Christmas music in the air. Then there's the joy of decorating the tree and the anticipation of sitting down with the family for a nice Christmas dinner.

After that delicious Christmas dinner comes all the delicious desserts and Christmas treats. The mouth watering puddings and cakes and cookies that come after a delicious Christmas dinner are just the beginning when it comes to Christmas treats.

Although most of the country shares most Christmas traditions, there are some differences when it comes to holiday food, especially when it comes to Christmas treats.

A recent study that examined over 40 Christmas classics- including candy stocking stuffers, peppermint yumminess, and all the variety of cakes you could think of, found that although many state will share some of the same Christmas treats, the difference by region can be quite different.

For instance, states in the northeast like Vermont and Delaware favored the chocolate chip cookie as their favorite Christmas treat while mid west states like Indiana and Kentucky favored the puddings.  Down south states like Alabama and Mississippi leaned toward red velvet cake as their favorite Christmas treat.

The findings were done by Zippia who studied Google Trends, that determined what Christmas treat each state eats a disproportionate amount of. They examined over 40 Christmas classics- including candy stocking stuffers, peppermint yumminess, and all the cakes. From there, they determined what treat is searched a disproportionately, high amount.

So, what was our beloved state of Michigan's favorite Christmas treat? According to the research we love our cheesecake. Yep, Cheesecake was the number one overall Christmas treat for us as Michiganders. So don't forget to grab yourself a big piece of cheesecake after your Christmas dinner this year and have yourself a safe and Merry Christmas.
