When you think Airports, you're usually thinking about larger ones, like MIdway or O'Hare in Chicago, Newark in New York, or even Detroit Metropolitan. However, Michigan still has a lot of airways and landing strips that see quite a bit of action throughout the year, and many of them are incredibly reliable.

Cities like Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Flint all see a significant amount of travelers every day, and to their credit, they're all incredibly punctual.

When it comes to the big airports in the country, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport actually does pretty well. It seem a little more than 10,000 arrivals a day on average, and weather permitting, still has an 82.5% on-time arrival rating. This actually makes it fifth in the nation behind Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Atlanta.

But even with that report card, it still isn't enough to make it the best in the state of Michigan. In fact, when you consider departures, DTW barely cracks the Top 10 airports in the state.

In actuality, the No. 1 airport in the State of Michigan is the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport (AZO). It boasts an average on-time arrival of 88%, and an 89.1% for on-time departures. Heads and Tails above EVERYONE else in the state.

Right behind them is Capital Region in Lansing, and Delta County Airport in Escanaba.

It's actually impressive how well Michigan airports manage to keep flights on time, considering how much weather can affect us even just a little bit in this state. When you consider Lake-Effect Snow on the west side of the state, and in the Upper Peninsula, it's incredible that so many flights still manage to land, and take off on time.

But maybe that's the trick. We're used to harrowing, and odd conditions. So when things are good, they're REALLY good.

So if you're relying on a strict flight time, maybe consider one of Michigan's other airports over DTW... assuming you can get a flight to your destination from these other spots.
