There’s a Castle in Marshall – No Big Deal
You guys.
There is a legit castle in Marshall, Michigan, and I only just found out about it. Nestled in the Wilder Creek Conservation Club, this stone castle has a working drawbridge, the ghost of a once impressive moat, and medieval windows. Not only can you visit it, but you can host a private party there. Which begs the question... which version of Robin Hood are you dressing as; Errol Flynn, Brian Bedford, Cary Elwes, or Daffy Duck?
The correct answers were Bedford or Elwes, for those folks keeping score at home. Oo. De. Lally.
Other fun role playing options include:
- King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table
Pro - you get to be a knight!
Con - you get to be a knight unless you draw the short straw and have to freeze in the water as the Lady of the Lake - Joan of Arc
Pro - get to be a badass, seemingly immortal legend who struck fear in to the hearts of her enemies
Con - if the bolt doesn't get you, the fire definitely will - The Last Kingdom
Pro - being a Viking would be totally sweet
Con - no witty banter with Alexander Dreymon - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Pro - you get to recite the passage for the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch
Cons - Absolutely none
Now... I'm not saying that you have to stick with these suggestions, alone. You can find your own medieval flavor and mix it up. I'm just suggesting that we don't take for granted that we have a castle in our backyards at our disposal.
