The Detroit Tigers are having another down year as they will once again miss the playoffs.  Some of their younger talent in the  low minors recently won their league championship.

According to Bless You Boys, Detroit Tigers rookie ball affiliate, Gulf Coast League Tigers West won their league championship.

The team beat the Gulf Coast League Cardinals for the title with a 2-1 best of three series win.

The Tigers won game one of the series, were pounded 11-5 in game two and picked up the series win 9-2.

The Gulf Coast League is a rookie league and is the lowest level of the minor leagues.  This is the league that is below the West Michigan Whitecaps, which is Class A.

The Gulf Coast League Tigers play their games in Lakeland, Florida at Joker Marchant Stadium.  Their first year manager is former MLB catcher Brayan Pena.

With the way that some of these players looked we maybe seeing some of them in Grand Rapids next season.  A few of them already made their way there this season.

As the parent club rebuilds, at least some of these younger teams are looking good.  Let's hope the success continues across the Tigers organization.
