It has been another down year for the Detroit Tigers and a year to forget for Michael Fulmer.  The pitcher has recently been recognized as he has been nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award.

According to the story from MLB,  the Tigers pitcher is one of the nominees for the award that sees players nominated from each MLB team.

Fulmer joins nominees like Jon Lester from the Cubs, Jose Abreu from the White Sox, Brock Holt from the Red Sox and current Cubs pitcher Cole Hamels, (traded from Texas) among others across the league.

The award is named for the Hall of Fame outfielder and is awarded to a player who has great character, community involvement and philanthropy.

All MLB teams have a player nominated so it will be tough for Fulmer to win this award.  The only Tigers player to win the award was Al Kaline in 1973.

The latest winner was Chicago Cubs First Baseman Anthony Rizzo last year.

A  panel will vote on the overall winner.  Fans can also vote for who they think should win here.   The winner will be announced during the World Series
