For only the 5th time in the last 20 years, the largest of the Great Lakes is more than 90% frozen.

Michigan Department of Transportation Upper Peninsula shared a stunning satellite photo from NOAA showing just how prevalent the ice is on the Northernmost great lake. Don't think "oh, it's just Winter, this always happens;" the last time Lake Superior froze completely was 1996 and this is only the 5th time since 1999 that more than 90% was iced up.

Parts of Lake Superior freeze completely every year. In fact, there is an "ice road" in Northern Wisconsin that gets used every Winter when ferry service is suspended.
