Why Are Some Michiganders Putting Toilet Paper in the Fridge?
Just when you thought toilet paper was going to be out of the national headlines, it comes back in one of the strangest ways possible.
Michiganders, as well as other Americans, are apparently putting rolls of toilet paper in their refrigerators and freezers now. Buy Why?
It was bad enough we went through the "Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020," which turned out to be just a panic move by the public. But now, we have people storing their toilet paper in the refrigerator, and freezer in their homes.
Just imagine, you're at a friend's house to watch the football game, go to get a beer, and next to your Two-Hearted in the fridge is a roll of Charmin Ultra.
Why In The Fridge?
It has nothing to do with a shortage of storage, nor does it have anything to do with the potential for "how it feels." (Although, don't knock it 'til you try it, right?)
No, actually, this is a viral trick that has roots in the hotel industry, and it has everything to do with keeping things fresh. Toilet Paper, especially higher-end brands, have extraordinary absorbent abilities, INCLUDING smell.
Similar to putting an opened package of baking soda in your fridge or freezer to absorb any smell, toilet paper can accomplish the same thing. AND, according to some, if you put them in the freezer, they can also double as a quick cold pack, that is relatively comfortable.
Does it actually work?
Well, yes... but just kind of OK. It can help control the moisture in your fridge and freezer very well, but when it comes to absorbing smell, it's just average. NOTHING will ever surpass baking soda boxes for two reasons.
- It's smaller
- It's cheaper
You can pick up a small box of Baking soda for somewhere around $1, vs. whatever a full package of toilet paper runs these days. Not to mention, it's still more effective in neutralizing odor.
But, in a pinch, it will work. And again, I can't over emphasize this, don't know using cold toilet paper in the bathroom as well. I'm thinking about installing a mini-fridge under the bathroom sink.
