Will Kalamazoo Schools Do Away With Letter Grades?
For me growing up in Catholic school there were 5 grades in play; A B C D and F. Then came college and they introduced the "E" for incomplete. Since those "dark ages" many other ways to measure student accomplishment have been used but still and all the letter system of grading has always been used in one form or another. What if I told you that there is a proposal to do away with grades and replace them with "feel good" report cards?
In an article on jeffcrilley@realnewspr.com, more schools are ditching A-F grades for a system where your child is either 'exceeding, meeting, developing, or emerging.'
But how are you going to know your children are learning if you have no measurement? This doesn't tell you where they need to improve. Parenting experts say this doesn't help kids down the road. Real life doesn't really care sometimes how you feel. It cares how hard you've worked to earn this. Others say this is socialism in disguise by putting everyone on the same level.
