News broke on August 27 that 2 Western Michigan University football players had been arrested by Kalamazoo police and charged with home invasion and armed robbery. The news traveled as far as the Washington Post.

This was not the start to his 4th season as head coach that P.J. Fleck was hoping for. The football leader took the podium for a news conference at noon on August 29 and took full responsibility.

This is 100% my responsibility as a head football coach.

-WMU Head Football Coach P.J. Fleck

Coach Fleck admitted that he is not perfect but he is real and reinforced the goals and the character of Western Michigan University football:

There is zero tolerance for anything like that in our culture. Zero..

-WMU Head Football Coach P.J. Fleck

Coach Fleck went on to explain the legal process the team went through to first suspend the players and then, following further investigation, dismiss them from the team. He also promised the program would continue to be vigilant to weed out individuals who may not fit the character of players the school is looking for.

We do everything we can every day possible to teach and promote decision-making and we will continue to do that. We will learn from this failing and we will grow.

-WMU Head Football Coach P.J. Fleck
