As the New Year arrives, the long time college hockey tournament, "The Great Lakes Invitational" is set to make it's debut at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

According to 313 presents,  the tournament in it's 53rd year is moving from the Joe Louis Arena to the new Little Caesars Arena.   The four team tournament will take place Monday, January 1st and Tuesday, January 2nd.

The tournament annually features Michigan Tech, Michigan and Michigan State with a special invite to a fourth team that changes every year.

This year that team will be Bowling Green.  In the recent GLI last year, Western Michigan won the title.  No word on when the Broncos will return but the next few years will see Lake Superior State, Ferris State and Northern Michigan take part in the annual event.

This years match ups will be tournament host Michigan Tech vs. Michigan State at 2:30 p.m. on New Year's Day followed by Michigan and Bowling Green at 6 p.m.   The winners will face off on Tuesday at 6 with the consolation game preceding the championship at 2:30 p.m.

Fox Sports Detroit will air the games on Tuesday.
