It's time for that ol' Holiday cheer. To be honest I really didn't anticipate having much holiday spirit just because of...you know...2020. But, these local events, highlighted by Discover Kalamazoo, should put me in the right mindset!

Here are 6 upcoming events right here in Kalamazoo that should put even the scroogiest (is that a word yet?) Scrooge in the holiday mood.

1. Kalamatopia

First up and first on the calendar is Kalamatopia. From what I've seen, Kalamatopia is all about supporting local business. Set up in the Kalamazoo Mall, Kalamatopia is free to attend with vendors selling jewelry, handmade soaps, art, ceramics and I'm sure so much more. Sounds like a great opportunity to get a head start on that holiday shopping. Kalamatopia is happening this Friday. Find all the details on their Facebook page.

2. Celery Flats Holiday Market

The Celery Flats Holiday Market, again, is all about local businesses and crafters. The event is taking place on November 15th at Celery Flats Park in Portage starting at 11am and will feature 25 local vendors, according to their Facebook event page.

Held annually on the first Friday and Saturday of December, merchants in Schoolcraft will open their doors for the general public during the walk. That includes culinary merchants, entertainment vendors and more! Find further details here.

4. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Keeping with tradition, Kalamazoo State Theater will be screening National Lamppon's Christmas Vacation, their 6th year in a row doing so. Tickets are on sale now for the December 5th showing and you can purchase yours here. As well, Kalamazoo State Theater will donate $1 of every ticket sold to WMU’s Seita Scholars Program.

5. BYOB Christmas Lights Tour

All aboard the Kalamazoo Brew Bus for their Christmas Lights Tour. Guests will meet first at Revel and Roll West in Kalamazoo where they'll have the option to take part in arcade games simply by mentioning that they're a part of the Kalamazoo Brew Bus. Then, the bus departs at 7pm for some local stops, a tour of the lights, a mystery pub stop and then will end back at Revel and Roll by about 11pm. If you're 21 years or older you're welcome to bring unopened containers of alcohol. More details and purchase options can be found here.

6. Walk through the lights at Gull Meadow Farms

This looks gorgeous. Happening on November 28th, the Walk through the lights at Gull Meadow Farms will feature not just lights but choreographed lights, over 40 Christmas blow ups, and plenty of spots for photos. They are asking guests to pre-purchase tickets so they can stay within capacity. Our very own Mark Frankhouse highlighted this upcoming event just last week. Read more about it below.

Keep in mind that with each event, even though some are outside, social distancing and mask wearing will be encouraged and, in some cases, required as Michigan continues to battle Covid-19.
