We almost made it out of 2020 without another disappointing announcement. Almost.

Yesterday, as reported by Mlive.com, The Michigan Brewer's Guild announced their decision to cancel the annual Winter Beer Festival which was slated for February 27th in Comstock Park.

I'm not a beer drinker...yet. I have a feeling living in Michigan will change that for me. But, even I, someone who is brand new to the area, am disappointed to hear this announcement. And I understand people's frustration at the continuous cancellation of anticipated events. From what I read, the Winter Beer Festival normally includes not just beer but live music, turkey legs, festive costumes and man...I MISS these kinds of events. I want to gorge on delicious food, buy handcrafted items I don't need, sit back and listen to local bands...however, the strike of midnight tonight doesn't magically erase the current situation. So, here we are.

Scott Graham, the Executive Director of the Michigan Brewer's Guild, told Mlive.com that,

While this is yet another disappointment, with the new vaccines now being administered, we are looking forward to a more normal year later in 2021. We thank you for your understanding and wish all of you a safe, healthy and Happy New Year.

Over 100 Michigan breweries normally bring over 1,000 different kinds of beer to the SW Michigan area during the Winter Beer Festival. For now, I guess we'll have to get our beers the old fashioned way - buying them at the store.
