Big Layoffs Hit Acrisure As Grand Rapids Celebrates New Amphitheater
About a week after the brand-new Acrisure Amphitheater opened in downtown Grand Rapids, the company whose sponsored name was supposed to bring in a strong sense of community has announced that it would be laying off 2250 employees amid its expansion of artificial intelligence.
Normally, when a company puts its name on a major building, amphitheater, stadium, or Arena is because they want to expose their business to the community and show how connected they are. That, or it’s just a big money deal between rich people, which seems to be the case, as the company whose namesake is on the brand-new amphitheater sent a letter to employees announcing all the layoffs.

According to a report from WOOD TV, the CEO called it a difficult decision; however, the chairman and CEO of Acrisure, Greg Williams, made the decision to lay off 11% of their company's workforce.:
We will be reducing our headcount by approximately 2,250 roles. This process will begin today and continue in phases into 2027. The reduction … will primarily impact U.S. based operations. As we look ahead, we need to increase revenue growth through greater connectivity, tighter alignment, and continued investment in technology. The greatest risks we face are not acting decisively enough and seeking comfort in the way things ‘used to be.’
Ultimately, the reason the layoffs happened is that they are looking to combine human expertise with technology platforms, using AI and automation to reduce manual work and create faster and more consistent outcomes.
But how much longer will it be until those “human expertise" positions are also threatened, once their AI is significantly trained?
