Big Boy’s Manistique Location Has A Moose In Checkered Overalls
Big Boy Restaurants is one of the most iconic Michigan brands, and still holds over 60 locations in the United States. The majority of these locations are found in Michigan, where its headquarters are located in Southfield.
Big Boy was originally started as Bob’s Pantry in Glendale, California, before the family moved to Michigan, and the restaurant chain quickly took off. Big Boy is known for many things, including its breakfast buffet and Big Boy hamburger, but it’s also iconic for its logo.

Outside of all the big boys, you will find the big boy character in his red and white checkered overalls. But there is one location in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan that even features a moose in checkered overalls.
The Big Boy location is located in Manistique at 607 E. Lakeshore Dr. Not only do they have the Big Boy logo above their sign, but they also have a moose in red and white checkered overalls outside of the building.
It’s pretty amazing, and it should come as no surprise that you could only find a Big Boy moose in the Upper Peninsula. In fact, many believe that this particular location is one of the best, including a big love for their salad bar.
There was once a rumored Big Boy statue cemetery located in the Upper Peninsula somewhere, but time and the disadvantage of this rumored cemetery filled with old Big Boy statues being on private property, was apparently either moved, or the statues were trashed.
Regardless, big boy continues to be a staple of Michigan, and I don’t see it going away anytime soon.
