Saugatuck Native, Former WMU Bronco and KZoo Growler Makes MLB Debut

The odds of a human being every playing more than little league, and summer league baseball are pretty slim. You can try out for the teams in Middle School, and High School, and if you make the squad there, then that along is a huge accomplishment.

But there is no higher accomplishment in the baseball world than being called up to "The Show," and for one southwest Michigan athlete, that moment has finally come, as the former WMU Bronco, and Kalamazoo Growler made his MLB debut this week.

Congratulations are in order for Blake Dunn, who made his Major League debut on Tuesday with the Cincinnati Reds.

The former Western Michigan University Bronco, and former Kalamazoo Growler was playing for the Triple-A Louisville Bats prior to Tuesday. But the Reds, who are their Major League affiliate, decided to pick up his contract, and pull Dunn up to the show, and Tuesday, he officially made his debut.

The Center Fielder didn't exactly have a stellar debut, going 0-2 at the plate, but it's only one game, and there's a reason Major League Teams pull up players from the minor leagues... because they believe they can make a difference in the game.

Who is Blake Dunn

Born in Holland MIchigan, and eventually graduating from Saugatuck, Dunn is now the Center Fielder for the Reds, and was picked in the 15th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He spent his rookie year with the Arizona Complex League Reds, and moved his way up the minors through the Daytona Beach Tortugas, and eventually, this season, into the Triple-A realm with the Louisville Bats.

Before that, though, he was a stellar player for the Broncos, and spent his 2020 and 2021 summers playing for the Growlers as well.

West Michigan is proud of his accomplishments, and we can't wait to see what's next for you Dunn.
