A Battle Creek man has been taken into custody after allegedly carrying out an armed robbery Thursday morning.

The Battle Creek Police Department says that around 8:08am Thursday, their officers were called to a business in the 500 block of Capital Ave SW. They were told that a man had walked into the store, grabbed an item from a shelf and walked up to the counter. When the cashier opened the cash drawer, the man pulled out a handgun and pointed it at them.

The suspect reportedly reached over the counter, took some cash, and then fled on foot from the store.

At around 8:14am, Battle Creek Police Officers in the area of the store spotted their suspect and began chasing him down on foot. After that brief chase, he was taken into custody without incident. The suspect, a 37-year-old man, was arrested and is expected to be charged with Armed Robbery.
