Fandango Tapas Bistro to Close, but it's Not What You Think

As Fandango closes, downtown Kalamazoo loses a favorite restaurant but the Coronavirus pandemic and ensuing statewide shutdown is not the cause.

It seems it is becoming more common to see headlines of restaurants and small businesses closing or not reopening as Michigan's "Stay Home, Stay Safe" guidelines begin to be relaxed. In this case, it's easy to assume Covid-19 is the cause for Fandango closing, but that's not it. Owner Adam Renaud tells MLive,

It was quite a run, it was fun, it was exciting. I was in my mid-20s when I started it, but all good things must come to an end.

A growing family and changing priorities is what prompted a change. Renaud apparently had a deal to sell the restaurant back in February but then, well...you know.

At the corner of South Street and the Kalamazoo Mall since 2006, the Mediterranean small plates eatery was a favorite destination for dining downtown, for a complete meal or a pre or post-event destination. Fandango was the first tapas restaurant in Kalamazoo. While we have many outstanding choices for dining out downtown Kalamazoo, this unique spot will be missed.
