One of the most beautiful places with breathtaking views in the entire state of Michigan is at the very top of the Porcupine Mountain State Park overlooking miles of lush forest.

But on Wednesday, that beautiful area is in jeopardy as the Michigan Senate is considering a $50 million taxpayer-funded grant that will seek to access the mines within the mountains to dig for Highland Copper, a Canadian junior exploration company with no experience owning or operating mines.

Protect the Porkies also claimed on its website that the company already has a track record of violating permits and degrading wastelands.
This issue was already passed and sent to the Michigan Senate, but it was denied. It now seems that on Wednesday, the Senate will once again vote on allowing this company to dig.
There are a lot of risks with this dig, as Protect the Porkies details, there could be a major risk that could contaminate the Great Lakes if one small thing goes bad:
This model released by the Great Lakes Fish & Wildlife Commission shows that, in the event of a dam rupture, a flood of mine waste containing mercury and arsenic would reach Lake Superior and the Presque Isle River in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. In some areas, the inundation would be up to 14 meters in depth.
Those who are opposed to the idea of this company being allowed to drill can contact each member of the Michigan Senate via ProtectThePorkies.com.
