It's been a hot minute since the Red Wings have been staunchly in the hunt for a Stanley Cup, mostly since they moved to Little Caesar's Arena. But so far in the 2023-24 season, things are looking up.

And just in time too, because according to a popular cult horror film, 2024 could be the end of hockey altogether.

The Red Wings' last Stanley Cup came just 14 years ago in 2008. Henrik Zetterberg led the team with 43 goals on the year, and Pavel Datsyuk led the team with assists and points. Tomas Holmstrom and Dominik Hasek played in their 700th game, Dallas Drake played his 1000th NHL game, and got his 300th NHL assist in that season.

Truly a dream year for the Red Wings.

But ever since, it's been a tough climb to get where we are now - 14 years later, and the Red Wings are showing signs of life again. But if they want another Stanley Cup, they better pick up the pace, because this could be the final season they ever get a chance to win a Stanley Cup.

Hockey will End in 2024

A popular, cult horror film has predicted that at some point in 2024, Hockey will be outlawed, and made illegal. Since we're still in the throes of the current season, things seem reasonably safe now, but who knows what could happen between now and Dec. 31st.

That film is "Jason X," the tenth installment in the Friday the 13th Franchise, featuring Jason Voorhees, and according to the dialogue, hockey will be made illegal in 2024.

The clip below showed up in my TikTok the other day, not too long after the clock struck midnight for 2024.

For those unfamiliar with "Jason X," basically, Jason is cryogenically frozen, and hundreds of years later, he's discovered by travelers in space. Of course, he is accidentally thawed out and havoc follows, including a scene where Jason literally beats one holographic teen in a sleeping bag with another teenager in a sleeping bag.

He also somehow turns into a "Super Jason" at one point.

The film is pretty campy, even for a cheesy slasher film, and overall, pretty silly... but any time movies from our past (this one from 2002) predict something from the NEAR future - which we now live in - it's worth taking note as to how much of what pop culture predicts, actually comes true.

Will "Jason X" accurately predict the demise of hockey in 2024, or is it dead wrong?

Every Sweater Number in Detroit Red Wings History Worn Just Once (Or Not At All)

For whatever reason, these numbers have either been worn just once or never at all in the nearly 100-year history of Detroit Red Wings hockey, according to Hockey Reference.

(Hockey Reference suggests that No. 6 was only worn by Cummy Burton, which is incorrect as Larry Aurie wore the number first and the number is pseudo-retired. Such inaccuracies are difficult to narrow down, so where they can be corrected they will be.)
