An annual effort that began in 2015 by a then 9-year-old Kalamazoo area boy has surpassed its 2019 goal by providing 4,839 blankets to those in need.

Samuel's Blankets for the Homeless began with a simple goal; collecting 200 blankets blankets for Kalamazoo area homeless. Samuel's determination, empathy and infectious generosity netted the cause over 320 blankets that where directly delivered to area homeless. Each year since has seen a raised goal and the same exceeded expectations through community generosity and his efforts.

Samuel's goal for 2019 was to be able to collect 3,000 blankets for distribution. Samuel started 2019 with a "Birthday Blanket Drive" collecting 543 blankets. When added to the 4,296 blankets donated since, his grand total for blankets collected and distributed comes to 4,839.

Over the last 5 years, Samuel’s total for blankets collected and donated to those in need is now at 10,276 blankets.

Distribution took place on Sunday, December 1. You might think that he would be ready to take a break but this young man has already begun efforts for next years distribution.
