A teacher at the Marshall Public Schools has now been arrested, after an investigation began Tuesday into alleged sexual activity with a student.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that detectives from their office as well as the Marshall Police Department began investigating sexual assaults against a 16-year-old girl that allegedly occurred in both Marshall, and Bedford Township. The 33-year-old Battle Creek man was interviewed by authorities, and subsequently arrested; charges are being sought for criminal sexual conduct.

The man’s home on Halbert Rd. in Bedford was also searched by authorities, and they say they seized several items relating to the investigation, which the Battle Creek Enquirer says initially began after the alleged victim’s mother became aware of the fact her daughter and the teacher had been having sex.

The Marshall Schools say they will review the teacher’s employment if he is released from jail, but they also say since he’s in jail and not on leave he won’t be paid.
