A woman who was a contracted employee in food services at Mendon Middle High School will be in prison for the next five years after being found guilty of sexual misconduct involving two students.

Kaitlyn Sand, who was arrested in September, was apparently using different social media platforms to contact the victims between February and April 2023.

A circuit court judge has sentenced Kaitlyn Sand, 34, to five to 15 years in prison on Friday, January 23rd.

Wood TV has reported the facts of the case, the additional charges and what life after prison could look like for her:

In December, she pleaded no contest to two charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop five additional charges, including four other CSC counts. Upon her release, Sand will be required to register as a sex offender, possibly for life.

According to Wood TV, MCS Superintendent Leasa Griffith-Mathews had previously released a statement regarding the case:

Although we cannot discuss specifics of the situation, since these allegations came to light, our administrative team has been working with the Mendon Police Department, and we will continue to do so. As always, the district’s priority is the safety and well-being of all of our students. We will continue to work actively with the authorities on this matter.

Before you go and think or say something stupid like, "WhErE wErE tHeSe tEaChErS wHen i wAs iN sChOoL," or "LuCkY kId," just remember you're talking about literal children, and there's nothing "cool" about adults preying on them.
