Gun Lake Casino set out to have the U.S. 131 interchange at M-179, the state highway the casino is located on, rebuilt and they have promised to pay 95% of the funding needed to rebuild the entrance and exit ramps, according to MLive.

Gun Lake Tribal leaders reached out to MDOT and requested the construction project last year, MLive reports.  The construction will begin on the new interchange this fall with most of the work happening in 2021. MDOT expects the project to cost between $20-25 million.

MDOT and Gun Lake Tribal Leaders are hosting a meeting for the public about the construction project soon (MLive):

The Thursday, Feb. 13 meeting runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Gun Lake Tribal Administration Building, 2872 Mission Drive in Shelbyville. The meeting takes place in the administration building’s multipurpose room.

I'm kinda diggin' this story, they want better exits, so they mostly pay for it themselves. Boss move.
