I bet you know a good kid. You know who I'm talking about. More Gallant than Goofus, this kid stands up for the little guy, gives their time to the community, and fights for equality. She's started a fundraiser at her school to install new water fountains. He tutors younger children in math. You think, "I wish all kids were like them." Well, now's your chance to nominate that kid for the 2018 Dr. Lewis Walker Social Justice Youth Award.

As part of Kalamazoo's MLK Day of Service, awards will be given to students between the ages of 12 and 19. The recipients of these awards will be honored for their achievements in racial justice, community service, volunteerism, and leadership. Oh, and they'll get $200 and a one year membership to the NAACP. The awards will be given by none other than our illustrious mayor during the City Commission meeting on January 17th, 2018 at 7pm.

To nominate a deserving youth you would like recognized, click here, or pick up an application at City Hall. Deadline for nominations is Tuesday, January 2nd, by 5pm. Click here for more information on the award and the 2018 MLK Day of Service.
