You Can Own J.M. Studebaker’s Historic Carriage House in South Bend

You've heard of a Studebaker car, right? Well, one of the guys responsible for them was a longtime resident of South Bend, Indiana, and built an INCREDIBLE estate that is still renowned as one of the biggest, and most luxurious in Indiana.

Sadly, the original home on the historic "Sunnyside" Estate was demolished in the early 1950s, BUT, the historic carriage house (the Studebakers began their business making carriages and wagons) still stands today, and it's for sale!

J.M. Studebaker helped establish the "Sunnyside" estate after he moved back to South Bend in the 1870s. He had amassed nearly $8,000 selling wheelbarrows to gold miners in California, and used it to expand the Studebaker Brothers Wagon Corporation for the Union Army in the Civil War.

Soon after, J.M. Became president of the company, and built "Sunnyside" Estate. But over the decades, and after the Studebakers left the property, it was slowly sold off, and other homes built around it. The actual home was dismantled and demolished in the 1950s.

BUT, its Carriage House withstood time, and has since been updated, and revamped to be an incredible modern marvel of historical significance.

To give you an idea as to how big the Sunnyside Estate really was, the Carriage House that's for sale now (Built in 1890) has five bedrooms, five full baths, and has three attached apartments that could be converted into the main house, or used for extended friends and family to stay.

Case and point... the CARRIAGE HOUSE IS HUGE!!!!

It also holds claim to South Bend, Indiana's first residential pool, built with the home in 1890, and still functions today (with upgrades, of course).

And the beautiful thing is, you can now OWN this piece of history in Great Bend legend. All for just a cool $1.29 million.

Even if it's outside your price range, it's still quite a treat to tour the inside of this nearly 135-year-old home, once owned by one of the earliest pioneers of the "horseless carriage."
