50 Taco John’s Restaurants Planning to Open near Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids
The Wyoming-based fast food joint, Taco John's, just signed its biggest development deal to date by opening 50 restaurants. The deal was made with Grand Rapids-based Meritage Hospitality Group, who's also the largest franchisee owner of Wendy's. The plan is to open 50 locations by March 31, 2026 with the option of adding another 150 after the five years.
Meritage's President said in a press release that they were looking to expand their portfolio and they were attracted to what Taco John's had to offer.
We are excited about the Mexican restaurant segment and the Bigger, Bolder, Better direction of the brand.
Taco John's started off as a taco stand in Cheyenne, Wyoming and now has hundreds of locations across the U.S., mostly in the Midwest and mountain states. They have one Michigan location in Stevensville (Berrien County). However, it shows as "temporarily closed" on Google.
The company had much positive things to say about their new business relationship.
As we begin our aggressive growth into new markets, there is no better partner than Meritage. While getting to know the group, I’ve been impressed with the organizational infrastructure, attention to detail, commitment to people, operations capabilities and development of top-notch restaurants. The best is yet to come for Taco John’s!
Taco John's says they are different from other fast Mexican restaurants because they have a unique menu with quality made-to-order food. Their menu includes tacos, burritos, and their popular Potato Olés.
Meritage is the largest franchisee of Wendy's restaurants and owns Stan's Tacos (formerly Stan Diego), Morning Belle, Twisted Rooster, and Freighters (in Port Huron).
