If you listen much to the Rocker Morning Show, first, let me say I've lost all respect for you, and second, I often point out the "gems" in our community. The Barn Theatre in Augusta is certainly one of them.

In its long history, it has not only produced great shows, but also an impressive alumni, including the one and only Fee Waybill of The Tubes who would stop in to the show to talk about starring in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And now The Barn embarks on another season.  Do yourself a favor and catch one or more of the shows.

The box office opens 10 a.m. May 18. Tickets for regular Barn shows are $37. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, 8:30 p.m. Saturdays. The theater is at 13351 W. M-96, Augusta. For more information, call (269) 731-4121 or go to barntheatre.com.

The Barn Theatre in Augusta has announced its 2015 summer season:

  • “Escanaba in da Moonlight” June 2-7: For one week only, the popular Yooper comedy returns. Reuben Soady wants to bag his first deer as his family gathers for the hunting season, if only he can survive the crazy locals and weird occurrences.
  • “Love Letters” June 9–14: For one week only, a play about two kids who meet in the second grade and then spend the next 50 years communicating with letters and postcards. It covers the ups and downs of two soulmates.
  • “Mary Poppins” June 16–28: Disney’s magical nanny is brought to stage with a score of favorite songs, such as “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and “Chim Chiminey.”
  • “Ghost the Musical” June 30–July 12: Based on the Oscar-winning screenplay, a musical about a man trapped between death and the afterlife while the woman he loves is in danger.
  • “American Idiot” July 14–26: Those familiar with the music of Green Day will hear some familiar anthems in this rock opera. Three boyhood friends search for meaning in a post 9-11 world, expressed in songs such as “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track from the Grammy Award-winning “American Idiot.”
  • “Rock of Ages” July 28–Aug. 9: A rock opera for older generations, this musical uses the music of the ’80s to tell the story of two young dreamers who fall in love at an L.A. rock club. Features songs made famous by Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake and more.
  • “Hands on Hardbody” Aug. 11–23: Featuring country rock, gospel and pop music, this musical is about 10 people competing to win a truck — last person with their hand on the truck wins.
  • “The Will Rogers Follies” Aug. 25–Sept. 6: Tom Wopat is coming to the Barn for this glitzy musical about the life of Will Rogers.
