Battle Creek Meijer Evacuated After Fire In Cart Area
A Meijer store in Battle Creek had to be evacuated early Monday morning after a small fire started in the cart storage area near the front of building.
The Battle Creek Fire Department says in a release that around 2am Monday, fire crews were called to the Meijer on W. Columbia Ave. after an alarm sounded; when crews arrived, the sprinklers were already extinguishing the fire near the west entrance.
At this time, it appears that an electric shopping car suffered an electrical failure, causing the small fire.
The building had to be evacuated while the fire was extinguished, and while the building was ventilated of smoke. The Calhoun County Health Department was called in, and determined that the store could be opened back up.
No one was injured in this fire.
