This 4-Kid School On A Michigan Island Needs A Teacher/Principal
Education is one of Michigan's most important professions, yet every year it seems like it’s getting harder and harder to find the right teachers for the right jobs. As an educator, you need to be able to connect with kids on a personal level and earn their trust so that teaching them becomes a lot easier.
Many schools in the state have struggled to find everything from substitutes to long-term educators, who are willing to commit to staying in one place. One school more than any in the state struggles with that issue because, during the winter, you can’t get out without a plane. On top of that, the hardest part about the job is that it’s only a four-kid school.

That’s right; only four children are enrolled at Bois Blanc Pines school on the island just southeast of Mackinac Island. The school is somewhat in jeopardy because as of this fall, the four students attending class currently do not have a teacher.
It’s not just a teacher that is needed, but they also need to be a counselor, a principal, and a purchasing agent. According to bridgemichigan.com, The grandmother of an 11-year-old student Christine Hasbrouck, is concerned the secludedness of the 90-year-old school will make it difficult to find a permanent teacher:
I tell everybody, ‘We are remote Alaska without the mountains.' That is what we are here. And a lot of people don't understand that we're not like Mackinac Island. Our ferries don't run three-quarters of the year or all year long.
