Dearborn Shelter Forced To Change Pawchella To Pawfest
The owners of Coachella have sent a cease-and-desist order to the owners of a Dearborn animal shelter for infringing on their trademarked name.
The Maryann Wright Animal Adoption & Education Shelter was issued a cease-and-desist order after the owners of Coachella claimed that their trademarked term “Chella” was being infringed upon by the adoption center, which is backed by Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit.

Their fundraiser, called Pawchella, is set to be on June 13. Now it seems that they have to change the name of the event since the owners trademarked the term “Chella” back in 2016.
The Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit CEO and president, Cory Keller, was taken by surprise as he told Fox Detroit:
I think we were extremely surprised because we would never want to copyright in French or take over someone’s trademark. We are simply looking at it from the angle of this is a community that’s bringing people and pets together and to support the over 2500 stray animals in our care every year.
Someone in the comments had a great idea on what they should have changed the name to:
Change it to The Coachella Made Us Change Our Name Now Everyone Is Going To Hear About This Amazing Fundraiser For A Pawsome Cause While Coachella Fades Into Unrelatable Obscurity Because Music Festivals Have Priced Out Regular People With Regular Money So Adopt A Friend Instead-Fest
The event has since been renamed to Pawfest, as they had to comply with the order.
