I know, when I first saw it I thought I was gonna be taking a trip to the Detroit Zoo to see Billy Corgan play "Rat In A Cage." Sadly that's not gonna happen. But I do get to see adorable zoo animals smash pumpkins and eat yummy treats. Next month the zoo will be providing the animals with pumpkins filled with seasonal treats that they can enjoy after smashing them to pieces.

As they describe on the event page:

Detroit Zoo animals will have a smashing good time on Wednesday, October 10, and Saturday, October 20, when they receive pumpkins filled with tasty treats to eat, play with, roll around in, tear apart and smash.

Each year around Halloween, Detroit Zoological Society staff provide the animals with seasonal munchies – including pumpkins, gourds, cornstalks and other fall harvest goodies – as part of its comprehensive program of ensuring environments for animals that are ever changing and appropriately complex.

The schedule is as follows:
• 10:30 a.m. – penguins
• 11 a.m. – anteaters
• 11:30 – wolverines
• Noon – vultures
• 12:30 p.m. – great apes
• 1 p.m. – polar bears
• 1:30 p.m. – grizzly bears
• 2 p.m. – giraffes
• 2:30 p.m. – snow monkeys

I gotta catch those great apes tearing those things apart!
