Optical Illusion Shows a ‘Floating’ Ship in Lake Michigan

Freighters plying the waters of the Great Lakes are a common sight, particularly through the busy Straits of Mackinac. This photo, is unlike others taken of the big ships.

Captured by a photographer in St. Ignace, it shows a freighter in Lake Michigan. The water color and reflection of the sun’s light appear to make the ship float.

Ghost ships are not an uncommon experience on the Great Lakes. Last October, a viral video claimed to show one off the coast of Marquette in Lake Superior.
