This week was supposed to be opening week at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo for the opening of the Growlers 2020 season. Sadly, not only was their field once gain flooded, but the Covid-19 situation has made it impossible for any kind of season to take place yet. There is hope still though.

Just yesterday the Kalamazoo Growlers made an announcement that they'll be re-naming themselves after mac & cheese and turning into the Kalamazoo Mac Daddies, which will take place over Father's day weekend. So they seem to be in high hopes even though their season is in question. There is a group of teams however who will be starting their season up soon, and it may be a blueprint of how Kalamazoo's season works out.

Northwoods League's website released a statement regarding an innovative contingency plan for the resumption of Northwoods League. In the plan, which stems in Bismarck, North Dakota, they state:

The Northwoods League will be playing baseball once again when the Bismarck Larks, the Bismarck Bull Moose, and the Bismarck Flickertails take the field this summer at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark.  The three teams will be stationed in Bismarck and will begin a rotating schedule of a total of seventy-two games once the State of North Dakota moves to the Low Risk phase described in the ND Smart Restart guidelines.

The statement goes on to say that when it becomes possible for play to safely continue in each sub-region of the league, and the teams within each area develop a safety plan for their ballpark, the League will adopt a similar approach to schedule games within each sub-region so that fans in those communities can comfortably return to their ballparks as well. So the Growlers may be getting back to action sooner than later.
