The Detroit Lions are having an unbelievable year and so far are off to the best start that they’ve had in the entire team's history within the Super Bowl era. Last night in thrilling fashion, they were able to make a triumphant comeback and with only seconds left in the game, secured the win to go 8-1 for the season.

But the biggest story of the night has to go to the Detroit Lions plays, kicker, jig bates. Bates was a pick-up as one of the only two UF players to make an NFL starting roster out of the end 77 who played in the preseason.

Bates has been known as a great kicker for a long time, holding the record for the longest field goal in UL history of 64 yards. While he didn’t have an NFL contract last year, bates was doing what he had to do to get by, he was a brick salesman down in Texas and had basically given up on football, until the Lions came to call.

Last night, Jake Bates hit not only one of the longest field goals in Detroit Lions history but kick the game-winning field goal to end the game. This was good enough to earn him the game from Dan Campbell. It just goes to show that no matter what you do in life, always believe in yourself and never pass up on an opportunity.

The Lions now return home to face off against a struggling Jacksonville Jaguars team that is 2-8 for the season.

The Lions were then led by Bobby Ross and saw scoring touchdowns by Germane Crowell in the first quarter, then Greg Hill and Johnny Morton in the second quarter, which would prove to be enough by the end of the 4th. The game was a sell-out of 77,905, which is not unusual for these games.
