We are in the heart of construction season, not only in Michigan, but especially here in Kalamazoo, as many critical construction projects are happening throughout the city, which has vastly changed the landscape of how and where you can drive. Many businesses have been getting help from the city of Kalamazoo, as they have financed advertising for great local businesses.

Westnedge Avenue

The Westnedge/Crosstown intersection is expected to reopen the week of July 22, for Crosstown traffic heading East or West; Westnedge through traffic will remain closed until the week of July 29.

Once the Westnedge/Crosstown intersection has been fully reopened, Howard St will close at Westnedge, and traffic will be detoured around the closure via Crosstown Prkwy, Howard St, Oakland Dr, & Kilgore Rd.

Whites Road

The intersection of Whites Rd and Bronson Blvd partially closed this week as the water main and street reconstruction project continues to progress westward. The closure is expected to last through July 12.

Local traffic should utilize Duke St for access to Whites Rd between Bronson and Duke St. Other traffic will be detoured around the closure.

Inkster Bridge

Inkster Bridge work is progressing well. Crews have mostly restoration and cosmetic items left before the Bronson Blvd and Inkster Bridge can open for traffic.

Work is expected to complete by early August with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in August to celebrate. More details to be shared on the City’s webpage and social media.

Michikal Street

Michikal St is closed and is in the process of removal and reconstruction of the roadway. This project is the first project in the Downtown 2-Way Conversion Project.

Upon completion, Michikal will be constructed part-width with a shared-use pathway, additional roadside amenities, and leaving room for the PROTECT grant work to occur for the renewal and floodplain mitigation of Arcadia Creek.

Howard Street

A resurfacing project on Howard St from Stadium to W Michigan is expected to start on Monday, July 15. Howard St from Stadium to W Michigan will be fully closed starting Monday, July 15.

Amtrak is replacing crossing panels, as well as making some other major track improvements at and around this crossing.  The City project will replace the drainage pipe just north of the tracks as part of the resurfacing project.  The roadway will be closed for two weeks and is expected to be open by Monday, July 29.

Ransom Street & Event Center/Consumers Utility Work

These projects continue to progress and require Park St to be closed at Kalamazoo Ave (through 8/1) and at Ransom St (through 8/31). Traffic will be detoured via Rose St, which is now reopened at Ransom.

All businesses remain open and accessible! You can access Park St Market, Victorian Bakery, and other nearby businesses via Church St to Willard St. Ransom Street has also been repaved from Burdick to Pitcher and at the Rose St intersection. The final layer of asphalt will be added near the end of the project.
