A lot of people have been missing their gym families since shutdowns began in March, and a lot of people are finding it really hard to get motivated to work out. The KalHaven Trail Ruck 2020 is a hiking event is Saturday, September 19th from 6:00am to 7:00pm, and is open to all ages and all fitness levels. Sure, hiking 34 miles of the KalHaven Trail might not sound like a beginners workout, but you're encouraged to do as much of the trail as you want. 5 miles? Sure. 10 miles? Absolutely? 33.999 miles? If you insist. It's not about completing the trail, it's just about getting outside and getting some exercise.

So, what is rucking? It's hiking with a ruck sack on your back! According to their Facebook event page, standard ruck weight for men is 30 pounds, 20 pounds for women. The added weight isn't just meant to weigh you down, your ruck is packed with everything you'll need for the hike. Kalamazoo Strength and Conditioning has a helpful list of items that you might want to think about putting in your ruck, like equipment and food. And don't worry, you aren't going alone. You'll be split in to groups (but not split up from your own friends), and someone will be assigned to keep tabs on your group, making sure everyone is staying safe, healthy, and hydrated. Celebrate the end of summer and cheers to your health! Be part of the 2020 Kalamazoo Ruck!
