Online gambling is incredibly popular in Michigan, and between sports betting and casino apps, there can be many ways to gamble online. But it’s quite possible that thousands of people in Michigan are gambling on websites that are being run illegally.
Recently, Michigan regulators sent cease and desist letters to 19 online gambling organizations for operating without proper licenses, as Local 4 recently reported. These platforms were ordered to stop operating for violating Michigan’s Lawful Internet Gambling Act, Lawful Sports Betting Act, and other betting laws.

There’s a lot of risk involved for gamblers who are playing on these sites, as the gaming control board has said that these sites can not guarantee winning payouts, and possibly have unfair or rigged games on their site.
Furthermore, disputes or complaints of fraud may not even be recognized, as Henry Williams, the executive Director of MGCB, stated:
Illegal gambling operators threaten the safety of our citizens and the integrity of our gaming industry. These platforms operate in the shadows. They’re not just skirting the rules—they’re exposing players to serious harm. Our job is to stop them, and we take that responsibility seriously.
