Next We Could See Kalamazoo Area Pizza Huts Closing
Everyday this week we've gotten word that a major company is planning to close some of their locations. First it was Sears in the Crossroads Mall in Portage. Then it was Walgreens with a possible 200 locations getting shuttered. And now we hear that Pizza Hut is considering closing as many as 500 dine-in locations. Sears I can understand but Walgreens and Pizza Hut? Is it the economy, have they overextended or is it merely a change in the business model?
According to information found on clickondetroit.com, it sounds like a change in business model and philosophy. With so many entities in the delivery-only business like GrubHub, DoorDash and UberEats, it looks like some major food brands are going to have to adjust quickly. Right now Pizza Hut has about 6,100 traditional restaurants and 1,350 express units in the U.S. with 6 locations in the Kalamazoo area; 4 of which are dine-in. If you do the math you'd have to concede that at least one of those those will close. The question is which one(s)? Pizza Hut has not yet released the list of locations slated to close so stay tuned.
