The legendary hard-core wrestler Terrence Brunk, better known as Sabu, died on Sunday at the age of 60 years old. The former ECW/ WWE star was practically made for the business, after starting in the 1980s with his uncle Ed Farhat, who is the legendary wrestler “The Shiek.”

Coincidentally enough, the newest episode of Dark Side of the Ring on Vice TV is all about The Sheik, who owned the Detroit-based Time Wrestling until 1980. Sabu was lucky enough to wrestle at WrestleMania 23, which took place at Ford Field in Detroit, 20 years after WWE set the world indoor attendance record at the Pontiac Silverdome for WrestleMania 3.

But less than a month ago, he wrestled his final match for Game Changer Wrestling at their Spring Break 9 event. There is some controversy surrounding the match itself, as a fan apparently called out Joey Janela, claiming that Game Changer Wrestling drugged Sabu in order to get him to wrestle, in a since-deleted tweet, according to Ringside News:

So GCW/Brett drugged Sabu knowing he was unable to wrestle that night or at least having issues in the name of making 2,000 fans happy rather than prioritizing a f***** old retired legend’s health. I’m SO f****** disappointed to ever support GCW and buy tickets to their shows.

Joey was very quick to respond to the fan, refuting the fan’s allegations.

We didn’t give him kratom his team did, it’s also not illegal and 85% of professional wrestlers do it especially the ones on TV. So f** you. Sabu was a grown man, he did what he had to do to get out there. I took care of him to the best of my ability, I didn’t think what happened halfway through would happen.

The cause of Sabu's death has not been released.
