As more and more retail outlets providing recreational marijuana open in Kalamazoo and surrounding areas, more and more scrutiny will befall those who are or plan to indulge.  We've already seen the statistics on "high" driving and the impact that has had on cities and towns.  Now more of the medical, scientific and law enforcement communities are looking into some of the peripheral issues that will result from recreational marijuana use.

In an article on wnem.com, a study published on Monday found people who took just one hit of weed doubled their number of "false memories" in a virtual reality scenario compared to those who puffed on a placebo.  A false memory is a recollection of something that didn't occur or a memory that is different from the way it actually happened, often triggered by suggestions from others.  Why does this matter? With state after state legalizing or considering legalizing marijuana, a rise in false memories could play an increasingly larger role in criminal matters.
