For 93 years, the Galesburg Boy Scout Troop 265 has been a proud part of the community, and now someone has stolen $10,000 of the troops camping gear.

Recently, the community held a fundraiser for the troop to help them purchase new tents, and in an instant they were all gone.

The crime occurred Tuesday between 8:30 am and 3 pm while the Scoutmaster and his wife were at work. The gear was stored in a light gray utility trailer with the license plate C413727. Mlive.com reported...

"A neighbor saw the trailer going down the street being pulled by a white or light gray pickup truck"

Mlive.com gave a description of what the Troops trailer looks like...

"A light gray dual-axle box trailer, with black hinges and hardware, it bore no scouting or troop insignias. It did have obvious repair to the front corner of the top-- a memento of a camping in 2011, the Scoutmaster said, when a severe storm passed through and a tree went through the trailer."

Here Are Some Of The Things Stolen...

  • Tents
  • Back Packs
  • Sleeping Bags
  • Dining Flies

Most of the gear that was stolen was marked Troop 265. The trailer, and the contents inside are valued at $10,000 and it is unclear at this point how much insurance will cover.

To add insult to injury the next camp out for Troop 265 is February 10th. Assistant Scoutmaster Michael Way says that the trip will happen even if the gear is not replaced. Assistant Scoutmaster Way said...

"We will continue delivering programs to the kids," Way said. "We will use leaders's and Scouts's personal gear with what we can borrow or replace."
