When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? For me, it was a marine biologist. Clearly, that didn't happen. But, some typical answers might be firefighter, astronaut, or race car driver. And now, you can satisfy that inner child and drive on an actual race track! All it'll cost you is a new toy.

As reported by Mlive.com, Michigan International Speedway is hosting a toy drive. Emphasis on drive. It's the 12th annual MIS Cares Charity Track and Toy Drive happening this Saturday, December 5th, from 9am - 1pm.

If you'd like to participate all you have to do is bring a new, unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item. That'll buy you five laps around the track. Now, before you get too excited, like I did, you won't be driving a race car. Instead, you'll drive your own car on the track at "highway speeds". I'm assuming that's, what, 40 miles an hour?

There are a few rules that are in place if you'd like to participate.

  • Drivers must be 21 years of age or older
  • Drivers must have a valid driver's license
  • Drivers must have proof of insurance
  • All participants are required to sign a waiver
  • Cars are not allowed to pass each other on the track
  • Seatbelts must be worn at all times
  • Headlights must be on at all times

Michigan International Speedway President, Rick Brenner, said,

This is a perfect way to lift the spirits of those in need. It also gives our guests the rare opportunity to drive their own vehicle around the track that has been the site of many memorable moments in motorsports. We recognize that these are challenging times, and this event becomes even more paramount than ever before.

While it's not a race car, it seems like a pretty nice reward for simply donating a new toy or unperishable food item. A dream come true, even.

Food will be donated to the St. Mary’s Good Counsel in Adrian and toys will be donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
