Long summer days are fast approaching and with it comes plenty of Battle Creek area kids looking for things to do. While many children will no doubt have their summer packed with many activities, there will undoubtedly be children who won't have endless lists of fun.

Idle hands are the devil's workshop

For many area kids who have busy working parents and come from low-income homes, a bicycle is a means of meeting up with friends, adventure, and independence.

Once again, Bobby Holley and the Church of Living Water are teaming up to raise funds through the collection of donations of returnable cans and bottles as well as financial donations to give area children free bicycles.

Last summer the church and Bobby gave away 125 bikes to needy kids. Kids hoping to receive a bike need to be between 7 and 10 years old and complete an essay titled "Why do I need a bike" and send it to the Church of Living Water P.O. box 2296, Battle Creek, MI, 49016. The essays must contain the child's name, age, address, school, phone number, and gender. The deadline for essay submissions is Friday, April 29, 2022.

Every Saturday now through June 25, 2022, Bobby will be at the Pennfield Plaza, located at 1432 N.E. Capital Avenue, from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. to collect redeemable bottles and cans. From Noon until 12:30 p.m. he will be at the Urbandale Plaza, located at 1525 West Michigan Avenue. Then from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., you bring your donation to the Columbia Plaza, located on 20th Street.

All monetary donations should be sent to the Church of Living Water P.O. box 2296, Battle Creek, MI, 49016, or can be dropped off at the donation collection sites listed above.
