40 Years of 'Halloween': See a Double Feature of 1978, 2018 Films

The drive in is still open but you know it's not Summer any longer by looking at the marquee. Michael Myers is back this weekend in a Halloween double feature.

John Carpenter's 1978 movie Halloween, is widely credited with popularizing slasher films in the '80s. If you've ever seen one of these movies, you know the bad guy just...won't...die. In the 50 years since Michael Myers debuted on the big screen, the franchise has grown to 11 films with 2 more in development: Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. You can see the original and 2018 sequel play opposite The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus this weekend at the Capri Drive-In.

A quick refresher: Haddonfield, Illinois will never forget Halloween 1963, when six-year-old Michael Myers stabbed his older sister to death with a kitchen knife. After being institutionalized for fifteen years, Myers escapes from custody while being transferred to court. Returning to his childhood home, he becomes obsessed with high-school student Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis. Murder and mayhem ensue, Myers dies (but not really). The legend branched out in several different directions in subsequent films before the 2018 Halloween was written as a direct sequel, retconning all that had gone before. Laurie prepares to meet Michael on a final (?) showdown on Halloween night, 40 years after his small-town killing spree. Since there are two more movies planned, you can guess how this one ends.
