Are Employers Desperate For Workers Hiring Drug Users?
It's no secret the here in West Michigan we don't have an unemployment problem, we have an employment problem. In the blue collar sector which includes high skilled trades, there is an alarming shortage of available candidates. In fact, one company BSNF is offering electricians, pipe fitters and welders a $25,000 hire-in bonus. Below that grade are the line workers, customer service, etc that companies are extremely nervous they're not going to be able to find.
According to our friends at WZZM, this widespread desperation is causing companies to change their policies and drop testing for marijuana. With so many states decriminalizing pot and so many people using it anyway, employers have to widen their nets in order to meet their own needs right now and for the future if they want to grow and expand.
