Babe Ruth is a legendary sports figure and may go down as the most legendary sports figure of all time. This may be important because if so, one of the Babe's most impressive accomplishments took place in Detroit against a Detroit Tigers pitcher who may have one of the coolest names ever.

The pitcher's name was Lil Stoner, and he recorded 299 strikeouts with the Detroit Tigers, and even had a very unique and distinctive curve, thanks to getting his finger nearly cut clean off with a hatchet as a toddler. The curve would not come in handy on the day he faced Babe Ruth however, as Babe would go on to hit his longest home run of his career off Stoner.

When Did Babe Ruth Hit His Longest Home Run?

According to Stoner's Wikipedia, they document the date The Great Bambino knocked what he believed to be his biggest homer:

On June 28, 1926, Stoner gave up a massive home run by Babe Ruth. The ball went over the right-center field wall and was estimated to have traveled between 600 and 626 feet. It was the longest home run of Ruth's career and in 1965 was referred to as "probably the longest home run ever hit in Detroit."

That is one MASSIVE hit, and if you remember the old Tiger Stadium, it was not an easy feat to hit a ball that far that it escaped the bleachers, but Ruth was no ordinary hitter. It's pretty cool to know the longest homer in Detroit history was by The King of Crash.
